General Life Challenges

Modern life and society are increasingly complex. Feeling stressed or dissatisfied for short periods is common and normal.

However, when we endure emotional distress for long periods, it can be harmful to our physical and psychological health.

Our clinicians take a values-based approach in helping you develop emotional resilience and strategies to to cope with stressors.

Workplace Stress

We experience stress and conflict at work stemming from different sources. Different personalities and relationships, workloads, deadlines, power dynamics, and more can  begin to grind our morale down.

We are experts in workplace psychological health and safety. We can work with you to identify causes and form personal action plans to address the issues. Get equipped with skills to de-stress, de-conflict, and stay strong in the face of adversity.

Relationships

As social beings we need strong and stable relationships to thrive. We suffer when experiencing significant discontent, strife, or conflict in our important relationships.

Our clinicians take a values-aligned approach to help you identify needs, wants, and resolve relationship dissatisfaction and conflict.  We provide support around building connections, enhancing intimacy, and managing separation, divorce and co-parenting.

  Anxiety

Feeling worried, nervous or anxious some of the time is common, especially when we experience an acute or unexpected life situation. We can benefit from targeted support when symptoms persist and interfere with our ability to function.

Our clinicians have expertise in evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches for generalized and social anxiety, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive conditions, phobias, and conditions, phobias and more.

  Depression, Grief & Mood

Experiencing sadness after a loss,  significant change, or transition is a normal. When we experience persistent sadness, hopelessness, or dark thoughts about the future, this can be an important sign that we are dealing with a clinical depression or other mood issue that requires specialized treatment.

Our clinicians have experience in grief and loss, as well as assessing and treating depression (including seasonal and post-partum mood issues), dysthymia, and bipolar disorder.

Other Conditions & Issues

We take an integrated, holistic view of health and view our overall health as being comprised of not just emotional wellness, but also physical, spiritual, financial and community-relationship health.

Our clinicians will work with you to examine the big picture and work on practical actions to counter unwanted impacts and behaviours. These include issues like disordered eating, self-injury, substance misuse, and chronic physical issues, including pain, injury and disability.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes! Please see our Contact page to begin the process.
How does online video counselling work?
The PH&S Clinic uses Jane, a PIPEDA and HIPAA compliant secure, online video counselling service. You can access our services from any Internet connection. Once you are booked in for your session, your clinician will reach out prior to your appointment with more information on how to access your secure session link.
What do your clinicians specialize in? Are they able to assist me?
At the Psychological Health & Safety (PH&S) Clinic, we take a client-centred approach with the goal of enhancing your psychological health, wellness & resilience. Our team of associates use evidence-based approaches (CBT, DBT, ACT, MCBT/MBSR, EFT, and Gottman Method) to offer assessment and treatment services to individuals, couples and families for a range of life difficulties, including but not limited to:

To find a clinician to best suit your needs, please contact referrals@drjotisamra.com.
Do I need a referral from a doctor to obtain counselling?
No – referrals from a family physician are not required. We accept both direct referrals from clients, as well as third party referrals from employers, insurers, lawyers, and case managers. We offer assessment and treatment services to individuals, couples and families.
Are your services covered by my insurance provider?
Most of the time, third party insurance providers cover the fees under extended benefits for a Registered Psychologist or Counsellor/Therapist/CBT Therapist.

We recommend, prior to your initial consultation, that you call your insurance provider and clarify your benefits coverage. As all clinicians work under Dr. Samra's treatment supervision and oversight, we suggest you ask “Are counselling services provided under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist eligible for coverage?"
What are the costs associated with sessions?
Our counselling session rates are $150 for a 50-minute session and $160 for couples/family sessions. Resilience and leadership coaching services range from $200-$350/hour, depending on the Mental Health or PH&S Specialist, and the type of coaching service being requested.
What are your policies for rebooking appointments & cancellations?
If you need to cancel or change an appointment, you can do through our secure online therapy platform, Jane, or directly through your clinician. We require at least 48 hours (2 days) prior to the appointment to avoid a late cancellation or ‘no-show’ charge (the full session fee).
